Q: How long have you been at SmartCommerce, and what’s your background?
I started at SmartCommerce in October 2016, so I am approaching 3½ years with the company. I’ve been involved in tech for 30 years, with stints at companies such as IBM, Oracle, and Google. This includes holding positions in sales, marketing, and client services.
For the last 20 years, I’ve been working on business development and sales of eCommerce software services. I’ve spent the majority of that time working to bring leading consumer brands and retailers together through the provision of Path to Purchase solutions. These solutions, like Click2Cart, function as an essential nexus of digital marketing and online consumer sales.
Q: What does a typical day look like for you in your current position?
Typically I start my day with a team meeting and then dive into email. Being on the west coast means there is never a shortage of emails in my inbox when I start my day. My focus eventually turns to work with existing or prospective partners. Often that means fielding questions, providing support, and conducting meetings regarding partner engaged with Click2Cart. At the end of the day, my primary objective is to facilitate the growth of our partner network, which includes Agencies and Retailers.
Q: What’s your favorite part of your job?
Getting to help people. I love being able to use my years of knowledge and experience in eCommerce to guide people in a market like CPG. So much of what is happening in this space right now is new for many people. Being able to make a difference for them is a great reward.
Q: What do you like to do when you’re not at the office?
Doing things with my wife and three daughters is usually when I’m the happiest. That often means traveling and being outside – skiing, backpacking, sailing, whitewater rafting, lacrosse, soccer, etc. Recently I got a chance to go surfing for the first time. When I’m not outside, I’m cooking plant-based meals. I make a great mushroom gravy!
Q: What’s the most interesting place you’ve visited?
Morocco. On this trip, I had the opportunity not only to see tourist attractions but to visit small villages and towns and interact with local residents. This included being invited into people’s homes to share in meals and daily activities.
Q: Something that might surprise us about you?
I spent two years working as a disc jockey and broadcast engineer on 90.7 FM, WFUV radio in NYC. I also pursued work as a voiceover artist, narrating commercial, and industrial productions. In the end, I decided the career opportunities in technology were too good to ignore and left broadcasting behind. Today the use of my voice talent is now limited to giving PowerPoint presentations.
